As mentioned, every user gets 15GB of free storage. How much storage do you get with Google Drive and how much does it cost?Īcross all of Google’s services, the price and the storage options are the same. Depending on the date those photos were captured, you may find that the pictures appear much farther down in your Google Photos history, so don’t worry if you don’t see them right away. It only takes a few moments for photos to start appearing in Google Photos. After finishing the process, Google Photos will start backing up your folder of choice. After you make a selection, hit Done and then confirm your selection on the next page. After selecting the folder, Drive will prompt whether you want to back up to Drive, Google Photos, or both. Click it and select the folder that contains the photos you’d like to back up. In order to upload directly to Google Photos, head over to the My computer tab and find the Add folder button. This can reduce clutter by keeping documents and other files in Drive while organizing photos in a separate place. When adding a folder, Drive will ask you if you’d like to back up that folder to Google Drive or Google Photos. How to upload directly to Google Photos from Drive for Mac or PCĪnother option users have is to add a folder they would like to back up from the Google Drive Preferences window. These files are only stored in the cloud but will update automatically as you change them locally. On the other hand, if you installed Google Drive in order to save space on your device, then streaming files would be the better option. This means that if your device is without an internet connection or you just want to operate Google Drive offline, you can easily open your files and continue working with them. Mirrored files are stored both in the cloud and locally on your computer. Once everything is installed, Google will prompt you to choose between two options: Mirrored files and Streamed files. Doing this will make two separate virtual drives in File Explorer or Finder for easy identification. If you have multiple accounts, Google lets you easily add another account. Choose whichever one you store your files with. Google will ask what account you want to use. Once that setup file is opened, go ahead and follow the prompts to install Google Drive. If it asks, save the file and open it on your computer. On that page, there’s a big blue button that reads “ Download Drive for desktop.” After clicking the button, your browser will either ask what you want to do with the file, or it will start downloading immediately. First, head over to the Google Drive Download page. Google makes integrating Drive with your desktop pretty straightforward. How to install and use Google Drive for Mac or PC Google Drive for desktop can also serve as a fine Dropbox alternative. These online backups ensure files aren’t lost in the event of a broken computer. Either way, it’s perfect for uploading photos for a cloud backup or keeping files in the cloud while you aren’t working on them. The only caveat may be that files and photos stored in Drive for desktop could take a little longer to upload and be accessible in the web client. Opening up File Explorer on a PC or Finder on a Mac gives access to local files, as well as the data stored in Drive for desktop. The web client, though, may at times feel a little disconnected from your local computer since, in order to upload files and photos, a user needs to open their file manager and drag files into the separate browser window.ĭrive for desktop, on the other hand, is completely integrated into the local computer. Within any browser, you can access all of your files that sync automatically, allowing you to switch to another device and access those same files with ease. You’re likely familiar with Google Drive’s web client. What is Drive for desktop compared to the web client?

to the sounds of the Israeli army vehicles rumbling through the city. Manal Abu Safiyeh, 57, said she woke up at 7 a.m. Residents have been caught up in previous fighting. Nablus, the West Bank’s commercial capital and second-largest city, has been the scene of repeated Israeli raids over the past year, but few have been conducted during the day because of the increased risk of friction with local residents. In Nablus, Israeli shells ripped through the roof of the gunmen’s safe house in the heart of Nablus’ Old City, leaving nothing but twisted metal, cement blocks and torn mattresses still stained with blood scattered over the rubble. In a separate incident Thursday near the West Bank town of Hawara, a 20-year-old soldier shot and killed 26-year-old Palestinian woman who had stabbed and lightly wounded him. In a statement after the raid, the Hamas militant group said the three men, identified as Hassan Qatnani, Moaz al-Masri and Ibrahim Jabr, were its members and the group claimed responsibility for the April attack. Leo Dee, the woman’s widower, told The Associated Press he was “comforted” by the news of the militants’ death. The military said the men were behind an attack last month on a car near a Jewish West Bank settlement that killed Lucy Dee, the British-Israeli mother and two of her daughters, Maya and Rina. Troops and the suspects exchanged fire and the three men were killed. In a rare daytime incursion launched as residents were starting their day, the military said forces entered the heart of the flashpoint city of Nablus and raided an apartment where the men were located. Over the 21 days before their rescue, those on Grace’s boat experience physical and spiritual evolution and devolution, death and survival. Under the direction of an experienced and able-bodied ship’s mate, John Hardie, three men and one woman row away frantically from the sinking ship, moving ruthlessly through the sickening, thickening soup of bodies and debris, beating back any swimmers attempting to board. But Henry can arrange a spot only for Grace, as the last of 39 escapees on Lifeboat 14, an open cutter provisioned with four oars, a tarp, and sundry limited supplies. Grace and her wealthy new husband, Henry, have been secretly married in London and are heading home to New York to meet his potentially disgruntled family. Hundreds swarm the decks in search of escape. Įvents start with a literal bang as the ocean liner Empress Alexandra, unfortunately named for the ill-fated wife of Russian Czar Nicholas, suffers a major explosion in the center of the hull. Grace’s “memory book” of the 21 days, prepared to help her defense, forms the literary premise of the book. Having come through the ordeal, just barely alive, Grace finds herself again at the mercy of tidal forces, for she is now on trial for her life for her part in a death aboard the lifeboat. However, the book actually begins at a later point and has a larger focus. Through her narrator, Grace Winter, 22 years old, 10 weeks married and six weeks widowed, we hear the story of a small boat stranded for 21 days in the North Atlantic in late summer 1914. It is these questions that writer and architect Charlotte Rogan sets out to explore in her carefully- plotted and cleverly-paced debut novel The Lifeboat. I, for one, have never forgotten the power of Oscar Schisgall’s 1,000-word parable “Take Over Bos’n,” a gem of a story I read in middle school, which tells of 10 desperate men on a 19th-century lifeboat facing their final day of drinking water.īut what drives us back to these tales of suffering and fortitude in extreme conditions, where hope is at once an indulgence and an obligation? Are we held in the grip of the ultimate question of ethics and survival, “What would you do?” Do we need continued affirmation of the universality of our basest instincts? Or are we simply unable to resist a “ripping yarn?” As far-flung as the flooded earth of Genesis, the oceanless Andes of Alive or the uniquely uncharted waters of Life of Pi, they often are steeped in loneliness and anguish, but gilded in courage and nobility. Within the canon of seafaring misfortune, lifeboat tales present an impressive subgenre of their own. Even today, our 100-year-old passion for anything connected with the sinking of HMS Titanic and the 1,500 souls who perished with her shows no sign of flagging. Terrifying yet strangely satisfying, these stories range from “Gilgamesh” to Robinson Crusoe to The Lord of the Flies. The guides throw the rope out and away from the boat: there’s no going back.Tales of shipwrecks and disasters at sea have steadily, if morbidly, fascinated people for millennia. They share secrets in the form of breath blown into a shell. Other bodies help them into the boat once they reach its end. They follow their guide across the rope, pulling themselves along. There’s a rope extending from the door to something in the distance: a lifeboat. Their new friend opens the door, revealing a room filled with light. But, they begin to trust this body, to sense that the danger does not exist there. That person has been here the whole time.Īt first, they are afraid. But, how is that possible? The door never opened. Out of the corner of their eyes, they can see movement that doesn’t fit. The sound around them transitions into noise… or is there a difference? They are layered in a way that makes them indistinguishable the longer they play out. Suddenly, the sounds of chains and creaking floorboards begin to permeate the space. At the beginning of the piece, audience members stand in a dark room and hear nothing but the breath and movement of each other. Finding the Best Dog Flea & Tick Prevention For Your Dog Talk to your veterinarian and decide which prevention products will work best for your dog, your environment, and your budget. You certainly can’t control all of the parasites in your environment, but you can take steps to protect your dog from suffering the consequences. Prevention is the way to go when it comes to fleas and ticks. “So if you have more than one pet, your other pets will be at risk.” “Fleas and ticks also serve as vectors that spread a large number of diseases between animals,” says Dr. One more reason to practice flea and tick prevention with your pets is to help keep your home and family safe from an infestation. Humans are also vulnerable to many of the complications and diseases that ticks and fleas cause, and they are equally hard to get rid of. Fleas have also been known to cause anemia from blood loss in very infested dogs. Fleas carry the larvae of the tapeworm, and these larvae will mature into adult tapeworms inside your pet’s intestines. Often, this results in your dog swallowing the flea. The first thing your pet will most likely do when bitten by a flea is chew at the spot where the bite is. The bite of one flea can send your dog into a whirlwind of scratching, biting, and digging at their skin.Īlso, fleas are the most common cause of tapeworms in dogs. If your pet has an allergy to fleas, you may observe these uncomfortable symptoms and more if they get fleas. Itching and scratching, redness, flaky skin, scabs, hot spots, hair loss. So it’s very important to locate and carefully remove ticks from your dog as quickly as possible. A tick bite will take about 12 hours to transmit the bacteria anaplasma and 24 to 36 hours to transmit Lyme disease. Jerry Klein, Chief Veterinary Officer for the AKC, suggests that during tick season, in addition to using a preventative treatment, it is critical to do a daily tick check on your dog. Treatments for tick-borne illnesses are also lengthy and can be very costly.ĭr. These diseases can be very difficult to recognize and are easily misdiagnosed due to varied and vague symptoms. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns that vaccines are not available for most of the tick-borne diseases that dogs can get. In addition, ticks are the host of several debilitating diseases, including Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, and babesiosis. Ticks can cause infection, abscesses, paralysis, and even death. Your vet will also consider whether you have more than one pet, have dogs that swim, or have young children in your household.Ĭhoices for flea and tick preventatives now include: It is best to work with your veterinarian to decide on the right regimen that will fit your pet’s age, health, and breed, as well as the environment you live or vacation in. However, you must always consider the safety of your dog when using a flea and tick preventative. Our choices have grown exponentially over the years. Products to Prevent Fleas and Ticksįirst of all, there are flea and tick preventatives on the market today that are safer and more effective than what was available 10 years ago. There are big benefits to being consistent when protecting dogs against fleas and ticks. And unfortunately, these parasites can have a serious effect on your dog’s health. Whatever we do to keep our dogs healthy and protect them, it is impossible to keep them from meeting up with ticks and fleas when they go outside. Unfortunately, they also ring in the full-blown season of fleas and ticks. Spring and summer are times when the lure of the great outdoors calls to us and our family pets. The world clock scales best to Mac-sized displays, especially if you have multiple cities added, while the other sections adjust decently. A single window gives you four tab options for world clock, alarm, stopwatch, and timer. The Clock app design is very similar to the iPad version and its more compact iPhone version. A seconds hand would be a nice touch, but it’s a better analog clock than the tiny one that can replace the digital time in the menu bar. The app icon in Finder does include a seconds hand, but it’s not a live clock. It shows the current time when placed on the Dock or in Launchpad, but there’s no seconds hand. The Clock app icon is like the analog clock that we know from iPhone and iPad. Request a FREE account to learn how to put your Apple fleet on auto-pilot at a price point that is hard to believe. A receptionist will greet you upon opening and ask for your reservation. You may even mistake the 29 beside it as the bar given its swanky facade and sophisticated lighting (it is believed to be an architectural firm).īut if you have reservations, just knock on the door. Its run down, shabby frontage makes you think it’s just one of the closed down retail spaces. Some locals do not even know that 28 Hong Kong Bar exists. Heck, maybe one of the best bars in the world for 2012 if it were up to. Yet this mystery is the very reason you will want to make reservations to get to experience one of the best bars in Singapore. We were pleased with our selections and would recommend this bar to all good drink enthusiasts. It will be quite a pity that the only decent picture of 28 Hong Kong Bar in this post will be its frontage, as they do not allow photography inside. So, our guess was that there weren’t just good drinks, but also good bites. Owing to the bitterness, the pineapple comes to the forefront and coconut oil was the perfect lubricant that had well incorporated into rum.Įven though we came with full tummies our eyes spotted a few nice smelling dishes that the neighboring tables got. The Gentiana gives the distinguished bitter taste. Angostura Bitters comes from Trinidad and Tobago and is made of water, alcohol, herbs, Gentiana, and spices. Five Spices are actually Asian spices: of cinnamon, cloves, fennel, star anise, and Szechwan peppercorns. Why it is important that the ice is slowly made? Because it is more transparent and it melts much slower! The ingredients in this cocktail were the Plantation Original Dark Rum, Virgin Coconut Oil, Five Spice Pineapple and Angostura Bitters. It was served in a neat whiskey glass with the big slowly frozen ice cube with their logo on top. Our friend chose Coppertone, which was nice to look at and had a pleasant taste. However, this cocktail was a top-notch overall. I guess the bottle was opened for a while and the bubbles ran away. The only downside was the lack of bubbles. The bubbles of sparkling wine were the reason that this was my favorite one. Fundamentally, it was a cocktail for a hot sunny day. The ginger was measured thoughtfully, and it was a pleasant match with the mint. Made of lime ginger, mint, Bénédictine Cocchi Brut: for the base, he used the 8 years aged Bacardi Rum. The second one was a creation of Shafiq Rahima – the Avante. That is a light cocktail that I would love to drink on and on. The basil is very nice to contribute to the fruity flavors. The sweetness of the pineapple covered the pungent balsamic lemon taste. It's refreshing and slightly acidic drink. The base is 8 years aged Bacardi Rum with pineapple, balsamic lemon, and basil. By the way, Brandon is the barman in that bar. My first choice was the Rising wind from Brandon Khoo. Actually, those were the cocktails that got to the finals on the Bacardi Legacy Global Cocktail Competition 2017. I had the degustation of two cocktails that were based on the Bacardi Rum. Would you say that behind this doors is a bar Minty aftertaste was a nice addition, which washed-out the flavors and prepared you for the next sip.Ģ8HKS entrance. It adds some fruitiness and refreshes the drink. The cucumber wasn’t just a garnish, but a great addition to this drink. The flavors of fresh mint and few slices of cucumber covered the strong flavors and the generous portion of ice softened all the booze. It is a lightly fermented drink which apparently goes great with whiskey. Horchata is Mexican drink that can be made of almonds, sesame seeds, rice, barley, or melon seeds. It was made of Teeling's Irish whiskey and Horchata. When we got the menu, we knew that no matter what we choose it would be an extraordinary and edible piece of art. What else would you expect if capable hands of barista champions are making it? In 2016, it was chosen for the best Bar in Asia. Behind the bar the display of liquors was placed, which had well-planned lighting. Well, my idea of Narnia, of course!Ī neat, dimmed room with a long shiny bar was hiding there. And just like that, a step through the ordinary door takes you straight to the Narnia. There is also no secret sign that would point you in the hidden direction. There is no sound of people chatting or music playing. From the outside, you won't even notice it. She was there a few times and always left satisfied. That bar was the idea of our good friend Goga. How hidden can it be? Where is it located? You guessed it! It's right at 28 Hong Kong Street. The first hidden bar we visited in Singapore was on 28 Hong Kong Street. Yes, we like hidden bars due to tasty cocktails and more relaxed atmosphere. If you start them manually as processes of their own and then activate remote mode from cqrlog they keep on running if cqrlogĭies. When fldigi or wsjt-x has been started as a child process of cqrlog they will die at the moment cqrlog crashes for some reason. This is very handy, but doing that has also one risk. You can set preferences so that cqrlog will start fldigi and/or wsjt-x programs for you when you enter remote mode. Save this qso saves only to cqrlog, fldigi’s qso data is just cleared. If everything is OK you should see something like this:įldigi’s pr (Province) is transferred to cqrlog’s County fldigi’s Country is not transferred Save this qso is shown after you have call, time on, rst_in, rst_out and TX fired once it hides again when qso data is cleared. If you can’t see any changes you have to check port and address settings (both fldigi and cqrlog) and firewall settings. It shows data that have been received fromįldigi. When remote for fldigi is opened a new status form is shown. Preferences “Try to load QSO from fldigi every X seconds”. When you have activated fldigi remote and checked “Use XmlRpc” at preferences, texts that you type toįldigi logging sheet (or select from monitor with right click) are transferred to cqrlog by polling fldigi with speed you have set on In all cases fldigi must be started from command line with parameter: fldigi -xmlrpc-server-port 7362When closing fldgi properly and answering YES to save setup changes the next start should open xmlrpc server without parameters from usual icon. When closing happens it leaves text "Socket error, check fldigi!" to NewQSO field "Comment QSO". 0 disables, 1-20 means timer rounds until drop. But as it may affect also (in slow PCs) fldigi started by cqrlog it can be changed. Parameter "Drop after SyncErr >" automates remote mode closing when fldigi is closed. If you use fldigi on other PC remember to open firewall at fldigi-PC side for TCP traffic to port 7362 from your local network. There is no IP address validation, so you have to type correctly formatted If you have fldigi running on other PC put here the IP address of fldigi-PC. Selection to use XmlRpC.With selection you can choose “the old way” for fldigi remote, or the XmlRpc way. Port and Address for fldigi network connection and In cqrlog’s preferences/fldigi/wsjt interface there are some new settings. WiFi, wired, or even internet(when you should use openVPN to make secured tunnel between sites) Settings You get qrz/HamQth data immediately after adding call to fldigi’s call field You see qso before/dxcc statistics from cqrlog before firing TX the first time You can run fldigi on other computer than cqrlog if they have common network. You get qso saved to cqrlog and fldigi entry is cleared, but not saved. Press “Save this qso” on cqrlog XmlRpc form. Press “save qso” on cqrlog’s NewQSO form and press save on fldigi. This leads to situation where fldigi logging can not be used to act like indicator to cqrlog to save qso and saving must be done by operator on cqrlogs side. Because of this cqrlog can not know if “save to log” button is pressed at fldigi because it tells it’s information only With XmlRpc cqrlog acts as client what is opposite way compared to wsjt-x remote where cqrlog acts like XmlRpc remote connection to fldigi is an alternative way to transfer qso data to cqrlog. |
